US-based footwear brand New Balance Athletics, Inc. has shipped its first overseas consignment from Tamil Nadu to global markets, marking a key milestone in its India operations, the state government said on Tuesday.

“This achievement showcases global confidence in Tamil Nadu's world-class manufacturing and reaffirms our place on the international stage,” state investment promotion agency Guidance said in a statement.

In a social media post, Guidance added, “New Balance, now Made in Tamil Nadu, exported to the World. Boston's iconic footwear Brand New Balance has launched its first-ever exports from India - Made in Tamil Nadu..”

The consignment was executed in partnership with Chennai-headquartered Farida Group and Taiwan-based CJ Group. The company also has plans for a greenfield facility in the Tirupattur–Ambur corridor. Guidance said the exports “mark a new era for our footwear industry, making huge strides in sports and synthetic segments.”

New Balance, a privately held family-owned business led by President and CEO Joe Preston, is valued at around USD 4 billion. The brand employs more than 7,500 associates worldwide, operates 400 company-owned stores, and has 3,400 partner-operated locations globally, according to its website.
