Indian durable major Videocon Industries is all set to make Dubai its next global export hub for the Middle-East, Africa, Europe and South America.

NEW DELHI: In line with its global ambitions, Indian durable major Videocon Industries is all set to make Dubai its next global export hub for the Middle-East, Africa, Europe and South America.

Videocon chairman and managing director VN Dhoot said: Dubai is strategically located for our global export operations to various other markets. It offers a much better deal in terms of tax and incentives.

The company will be shipping its appliances and electronic products through the Jebel Ali port, which is UAEs flagship terminal and also the worlds largest container port that is expected to add a further 5-mn units by early 2009.

We wanted a larger base for our exports to the Middle-East and African countries, which are a huge durables market as we plan to take our entire exports from $47.5 mn to $100 mn this year, said Mr Dhoot.

The Middle-East countries comprise 35-40% of Videocons total exports. Dubai is also for re-export purposes for products ranging from refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioners to colour televisions, DVD players and others across categories to various continents, said Mr Dhoot. We have logistics and service tie-ups with local companies and are looking to save money in these areas.

The company will use Videocon and Kenstar brand name to export products, even as the company is an umbrella brand for many brands such as Electrolux, Thomson, Kenstar, among others.
