NEW DELHI: Whirlpool has effected top-level management changes for its sales portfolio in India. Sanjay Prasad, who was heading the sales wing, has been moved to Whirlpool’s Oceania division while Tamal Kanti Saha has been elevated as the new head of sales.
The home appliance maker, which had registered a huge loss two years back, is making a strong comeback with a clear bottom-line improvement along with a sharp sales growth and increase in market shares in India.
Mr Saha, who has been promoted as the new vice-president (sales), joined Whirlpool in ’04 as director (sales) for the southern region of India.
In his two-year tenure at Whirlpool, he is credited with successfully turning around the business in south India. Under his team, the business grew by more than 50% in the last eight quarters in the four southern states. An alumni of IIT Mumbai and IIM Ahmedabad, he began his career with Dunlop India.
According to Sanjay Singh, VP (HR), Whirlpool India: “As a strategy, we are looking at more internal movement for our senior management rather than bringing someone from outside. This elevation is part of the overall plan.”
