Tafe Power Source setting up new battery unit

Tafe Power Source is setting up a unit to produce Valve Regulated Lead Acid batteries.

CHENNAI: Packaged power manufacturer, Tafe Power Source (TPS) is setting up a unit to produce Valve Regulated Lead Acid batteries used in telecommunication system, solar power and emergency lighting devices.

The state-of-the-art unit at suburban Maraimalainagar being set up with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore, would produce three million units per annum, Director of TAFE Jayshree Venkatraman told a press conference here on Wednesday.

The company at present has two units, one producing motocycle batteries and another automotive and industrial batteries.

The company, a unit of the Ammalgamation Group, has signed an MoU with Chinese battery major BB Battery Company Limited for technology transfer partnership, she said adding the finer details of the agreement would be finalised soon.

TPS also wished to foray into mobile handset battery segment soon.

The new unit would be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on July 6, she added.
