Sony to sell auto programmes to PS3 users via Web

Sony Corp plans to the BBC's Top Gear series to users of its PS3 via Internet, strengthening the game machine's appeal as a gateway to the Web.

TOKYO:Sony Corp said it plans to sell auto-related programmes such as the BBC's TopGear series to users of its PlayStation 3 via the Internet, strengthening thegame machine's appeal as a gateway to theWeb.

Sony's game unit will putan online TV channel function in its upcoming racing game "Gran Turismo 5Prologue", which will go on sale in Japan on Dec. 13, allowing users to downloadauto documentaries, auto race digests and otherprogrammes.

Sony ComputerEntertainment does not give a price range for downloading, saying fees will varyfrom programme toprogramme.

The PS3 has beenlagging behind Nintendo Co Ltd's <7974.OS> Wii in sales since theirlaunches a year ago due to scarcity of strong game titles for the Sony machineat the initial stage as well as its high prices.
