Samsung’s India CTV plant clocks highest output
You could say it’s India Shining at Samsung! The Korean chaebol has rated its colour TV manufacturing facility in Noida as the one with the highest productivity across all its subsidiaries.
“The Samsung India CTV plant at Noida enjoys the highest productivity among Samsung subsidiaries worldwide, with a Samsung colour TV rolling out every 4.9 seconds,” Samsung India director (manufacturing) YB Yoo told ET. A team of 56 engineers from Samsung subsidiaries were in India last year to get a fix on the productivity at the Noida factory.
Samsung India’s immediate mission is to achieve the highest productivity grade for its upcoming CTV plant in Chennai, which will have a capacity to manufacture 1.5 million units annually. Commercial production is slated to begin next month.
To shore up productivity further, Samsung has put in place interactive kiosks at its factory for greater interaction with employees. This, the company feels, will drive up productivity in calendar 2007 by 10%.
