Samsung aims to consolidate share in flat panel TV market
Aiming to strengthen its foothold in the domestic television market, consumer durables major Samsung today said that it will double its market share this year by selling 1.2 million units of flat panels.
He said the market size for such products is estimated to be around 3 million units annually.
"We are currently the market leader in flat panel TVs in India, and have been consistently so in the past two years," Zutshi said. Samsung's nearest competitor is Sony, followed by LG, in the flat panel television segment. The company aims to sell 2,00,000 units of LED TVs and 30,000 units of 3D TVs during this year.
Commenting on the overall product launch plans of the company, Zutshi said: "Every year, we launch over 200 products across all categories. This year also, it will be over 200." The company is present in the country across various segments, including consumer electronics, IT and mobile handsets. It has facilities in different locations, including Noida and Chennai.
Stating that India can be a global sourcing destination for Samsung, he said, "We will probably use the Chennai factory for the purpose."
The plant manufactures front-loading washing machine, LCD and LED TVs, and air-conditioners.
