His twin roles as CFO of an airline and a fiction author demand optimal use of gadgets. And thats exactly what SpiceJet CFO Partha Sarathi Basu is doing. After the recent launch of his first bookWhy not...! Racing ahead with mentorshe has started working on his second book.

Till recently, he used a Nokia E 62 phone but has now switched to BlackBerry 8820. Why not iPhone, when thats the gadget many CXOs are waiting for? BlackBerry is a tried and tested model. I have never really used Apple products, he says. Well, not everyone wants to experiment with gadgets for the sheer thrill of testing something cool!

But there is one Apple product that hes been using and is hooked to60 GB iPod. He prefers listening to Bengali and retro music on the sleek gizmo. Another tool in his kit is a 8.1 megapixel Canon digital camera. And the notebook is from HP. On long flight, I use an external battery, so that I can key in my thoughts, without battery playing a spoilsport.

Mr Basu, who receives over 100 emails a day, affirms that hes very net-savvy. His home is Wi-Fi enabled. And there couldnt have been a better time to discuss technology with as these days hes busy working on his personal website, and understands the nitty-gritty of the web.

Though he has Sony home theatre system, hes looking forward to the one by Bose, as the latter offers the best sound quality. Mr Basu doesnt have a Xbox or a PlayStation, but that doesnt mean he is not an avid gamer. Like the pre-gaming console era, he uses the computer to play cricket and car racing games.
