Osram to invest up to Rs 111 cr to set up plant in Haryana
Lighting equipment manufacturer Osram India Pvt Ltd will invest up to Rs 111 crore in setting up a plant here as it plans to double its production capacity in the next three years.
"We will invest euro 15-20 million (about Rs 83-111 crore) in setting up our second plant, spread over an area of 40,000 sq mt, to double our capacity in the country," Osram GmbH President and CEO Martin Goetzeler told reporters here.
Osram India Pvt Ltd is the Indian arm of Osram GmbH Germany, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens.
He, however, declined to provide any figures of its present production capacity.
The construction work would be completed by 2009 and it would become operational in phases.
The company has a production facility at Sonepat. "We will add another 40,000 sq mt of ground to the existing factory in Sonepat," Goetzeler added.
The upcoming facility would focus on manufacturing energy efficient lighting solutions, including the T5 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL).
"Our customers can save up to 80 per cent of energy and help lessen the impact on the environment by reducing CO2 emissions which are responsible for global warming," Goetzeler said.
With the addition of this plant, Osram would increase its head count to about 1,200 from the present 700.
Germany-based Osram has a presence over 150 countries and had global sales of euro 4.6 billion in 2006 fiscal.
