Chinese-owned Motorola said it is committed to resolving product issues and extended apologies to creators affected inadvertently by the legal action it has taken cracking down on malicious reviews.

The smartphone company initiated a civil defamation suit against dozens of content creators and social media platforms, putting a temporary injunction on over 360 posts which also includes review videos, to scrub them from the internet.

"Motorola has a long-standing commitment to consumer safety, product quality, and open dialogue with the communities we serve. We welcome honest feedback from consumers, reviewers, and content creators," a company spokesperson said in a statement.

"Recently, Motorola India, in the interest of public safety, initiated legal action against posts and videos containing demonstrably false claims that Motorola devices have exploded or caught fire in circumstances where no such incidents occurred," the handset maker said, refuting claims from content creators.

The brand said the fabricated allegations have the potential to cause unwarranted public alarm and harm consumers who rely on accurate information when making purchasing decisions.

The company, in its lawsuit, claimed the posts were part of a coordinated campaign against the brand that has harmed its reputation. It named content dating as far back as 2015 as part of the campaign.

Following the lawsuit, YouTube and X took down multiple videos and posts of content creators.

"Motorola does not seek to suppress legitimate product reviews, consumer feedback, or critical commentary, and we are committed to resolving product issues promptly and fairly through our customer service channels. We are actively reviewing the scope of the current proceedings, and Motorola extends its sincere apologies to the creators affected inadvertently by this matter," the Motorola spokesperson said.
