Larsen & Toubro filed 162 patent applications for its electrical and automation products during 2011-12, the 11.7 billion-engineering and construction conglomerate said.

MUMBAI: Larsen & Toubro filed 162 patent applications for its electrical and automation products during 2011-12, the 11.7 billion-engineering and construction conglomerate said Wednesday.

"This feat has been achieved with continuous improvement in processes and regular investment in research and development," S. C. Bhargava, senior vice president and head of electrical and automation, was quoted as saying.

Company's electrical and automation division filed 162 patents applications, 16 trademark applications, 10 design registrations, nine copyrights in 2011-12. It also filed 10 international patent applications through patent cooperation treaty during the year.

From 1999-2000 to 2011-12, electrical and automation has filed 856 patent applications, 256 design registrations, 110 trademark applications and 20 copyright applications.

"We focus on technology research and development for supporting business development. The patent applications have largely emanated out of economic needs, to retain competitive advantage, remain environmental friendly and deliver more safety and value to our customers," Bhargava said.
