The iPhones were unveiled at Apple’s launch event on Wednesday. The new Pro models come with Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip, upgraded cameras, improved cooling technology and longer battery life.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max colours
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available in four colour options: deep black, silver, glacier and burgundy. Apple has also introduced colour-matched back glass on the new Pro models.The latest phones build on the design changes introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro series, including an aluminium body, a vapour chamber cooling system and the camera bar, which Apple calls the “plateau”.
iPhone 18 Pro gets new A20 Pro chip
The iPhone 18 Pro series is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which uses a new architecture based on 2nm technology.The processor features a six-core CPU with two desktop-class performance cores and four efficiency cores. It also comes with a seven-core GPU, with Apple claiming up to a 40% improvement in performance.
Apple has also upgraded the cooling system. The new Pro models feature a next-generation vapour chamber with three times the surface area of the cooling system used in the iPhone 17 Pro.
iPhone 18 Pro battery life
Battery life is another major focus of the new Pro models.According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours.
Apple also claims that just 15 minutes of wired charging can provide up to six hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro.
iPhone 18 Pro camera features
The iPhone 18 Pro gets a new 48MP Fusion main camera with a variable aperture, giving users more control over photography.Apple has also introduced Pro Controls, which allow users to manually adjust settings including white balance, shutter speed and aperture. A histogram is also available for more detailed control over photos and videos.
The camera system supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording, while Apple has expanded its cinematic video capabilities and added support for 60fps half-speed effects.
Apple Reference Image feature
Apple has introduced a new Reference Image feature with the iPhone 18 Pro, designed to help establish the authenticity of photos captured on the device.The main camera signs image data at the pixel level when a photograph is taken. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute then processes the signed data to create an unalterable image that remains available in the Photos app.
AI-powered focus tracking
The new iPhone Pro models also use on-device AI for focus tracking.The feature is designed to keep a subject in focus and preserve detail even when the subject temporarily moves out of the frame before returning.
Apple has also highlighted the new phones’ support for Apple Intelligence and Siri, including more expressive Siri voices.
iPhone 18 Pro storage options
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be available in four storage configurations: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.In the US, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299.
The new iPhone 18 Pro models will be available in India from September 18.
iPhone Duo
Apple unveiled Duo, its first foldable phone and one of the biggest design changes to the iPhone lineup in years. The new device has a passport-like form factor with rounded edges and opens horizontally to reveal a wide display that can also be used vertically.When folded, the Duo features a smaller display on the front. Apple said the device is its thinnest phone when fully opened, marking a major departure from the traditional iPhone design.
Apple introduces biggest iPhone design change in years
The launch marks the most significant overhaul of Apple's flagship product since the company removed the physical home button with the iPhone X in 2017.The foldable phone was unveiled at Apple's first major launch event with new CEO John Ternus at the helm. Former CEO Tim Cook opened the presentation with a video introducing Ternus, ending with Cook saying, "Not me. That's your guy."
The iPhone remains Apple's biggest product category, generating $209.6 billion, or slightly more than half of the company's sales, in its most recent fiscal year.
iPhone Duo focuses on AI and privacy
Ternus positioned the iPhone as a personal AI hub, with privacy remaining a key focus for Apple.He said Apple Intelligence is designed to run on the device whenever possible rather than relying on collecting and storing users' personal data.
Apple executive Lilian Rincon, who oversees AI products for the company, also showcased an updated Siri assistant. The company said the new Siri will work with 300,000 apps at launch.
