Govt to launch campaign for 'Made in India' electronics items

NEW DELHI: The government has decided to launch a brand building initiative to promote India as a preferred destination for investment in the electronics industry and has invited expressions of interest (EoIs) for appointing agencies for the same.

"The purpose of this Expression of Interest is to finally shortlist a reputed agency to conduct Communications Need Assessment Study to promote India as a preferred destination for investment in electronics system design and manufacturing ( ESDM) sector by local as well as global investors, the EoI document by the Department of Information Technology ( DIT) said.

The government has identified growth of electronics hardware manufacturing sector as a thrust area. It sees huge business opportunity in the electronics sector as demand for electronics hardware in the country is projected to increase from $ 45 billion in 2009 to $ 400 billion by 2020.

"DIT is in the process of taking action for implementation of five pillar recommendations of a high level Committee which includes setting up of a mission to implement schemes and policies in a focused and targeted manner, incentivisation, eco-system development and attracting investment in the sector," EoI document said.

The last date for submitting queries related to EoI is November 10 and deadline of for submission of bids is November 22, 2011.
