Government identifies 10 areas that can boost growth of electronics
The DEITY has asked industry-body Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) to prepare a study report on these areas and analyse their potential.
"Department of Electronics and IT ( DEITY) has identified 10 areas, which we feel can help in the growth of the electronics sector in India," Ajay Kumar, a Joint Secretary in the department said at an event here.
The department has asked industry-body Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association ( IESA) to prepare a study report on these areas and analyse their potential, he added.
Kumar did not elaborate on the specific areas that have been identified.
On setting up of two semiconductor manufacturing plants in the country, Kumar said: "The proposals we have received are presently under consideration."
The fabs are expected to bootstrap innovation and R&D, especially in the area of electronics, which will help generate about three crore jobs (direct and indirect) by 2020.
On preferential market access (PMA) for private sector procurements, Kumar said: "It is going through inter-ministerial consultations and after the process is completed it will be again put before the government for approval.
