France's Thomson Computing partners with India’s Sahasra Group to make laptops, tablets under PLI 2.0

France-based electronics maker Thomson Computing has entered a partnership with India’s Sahasra Group to manufacture laptops and tablets under the production linked incentive scheme 2.0 (PLI 2.0), the company said in a statement Wednesday.

The company will launch its line of laptops and tablets in the Indian market through a collaboration with its India subsidiary Metavisio Computing India and has identified distributor partners for the same, it added.

“Deciding to take on this challenge to promote this familiar brand in the commercial sector that I know best was a natural choice. I am thrilled to start the business in India,” Stéphan Francais, president and chief executive, Thomson Computing said.


Thomson Computing has partnered with ANA Business Ventures for government and enterprise facing distribution and with Digital Compusystems for retail distribution while its products will be available on all key e-commerce platforms for online distribution, it added.

“It is a moment of pride for Sahasra Group to partner with the French brand Thomson Computing (Metavisio) , the largest selling European brand for laptops & tablets. This partnership is a true testament of the Make in India initiative as envisioned by the Government of India,” Amrit Manwani CMD, Sahasra Group said.

At launch, the company will focus on the sub-Rs 25, 000 laptop market with emphasis on rural markets and those looking for a second or third laptop, though it will also market its premium products in the country. Thomson will also provide after sales service in India at launch.
