Dixon subsidiary Padget Electronics will start the manufacturing process in the next 12-18 months, the company said in an exchange filing.
ET had reported that NxtCell is in talks with Dixon Technologies to manufacture Alcatel phones, in its April 1 edition.
"This strategic association with NxtCell India will further strengthen our manufacturing excellence and
execution capabilities...This partnership is engineered to deliver high-performance devices, fortify
local supply chains, catalyse employment, and stimulate ancillary industries within India’s burgeoning
electronics ecosystem," said Atul Lall, managing director, Dixon Technologies.
This partnership with NxtCell marks Alcatel's entry into local manufacturing in the Indian market, the company said.
Alcatel will be the second smartphone to enter India in the last two years, after Taiwan-based Acer also announced plans to sell smartphones in the country with a partnership with India-based Indkal technologies.
Alcatel is investing $30 million to re-enter the India market in the consumer technology segment with a series of smartphones and feature phones, along with ecosystem products, from May, chief business officer, Atul Vivek had told ET.
