Delphi signs MoU with TN

Electronic equipment firm Delphi Automotive Systems inked a pact with the Tamil Nadu government for setting up a Rs 250 crore manufacturing facility at Oragadam, situated about 40 km from Chennai.

CHENNAI: Electronic equipment firm Delphi Automotive Systems on Monday inked a pact with the Tamil Nadu government for setting up a Rs 250 crore manufacturing facility at Oragadam, situated about 40 km from Chennai.

"This is our fifth manufacturing plant, after setting up of two plants in Hyderabad, one each in Uttar Pradesh and Bangalore," Delphi Automotive Systems President and MD Ashok B Ramaswami told reporters here.

The plant would be built in three phases, he said adding "it will commence operations by the end of 2009".

From this plant, the company would manufacture products in the areas of controls, security, safety, entertainment and communications, he said.

"In the first phase, the plant will produce immobiliser, automobile-related computers, instrument clusters, and driver information system," he said, adding it would be followed by safety and entertainment products.

To a query, he said they were hiring employees for the Oragadam plant but declined to comment on the number of direct and indirect employment to be generated.

The plant would mainly cater to the domestic market and may in future look to export products, he said.
