Daikin India AC factory to be Asia export hub
The Indian unit of Japanese consumer durables giant Daikin plans to make its upcoming airconditioner manufacturing facility in Rajasthan the export hub for countries in the South-East Asian and West Asian regions.
Almost 40% of the products made at its Neemrana factory, which is expected to be ready next year, will be exported, India head for sales and marketing Sanjay Goyal said.
In the first phase, the company is investing Rs 160 crore in Neemrana to make commercial ACs based on its variable refrigerant volume technology, which controls the rate of flow of the refrigerant depending on heating or cooling requirement.
The unit will have the capacity to make 20,000 airconditioners and 18,000 chillers. We will start manufacturing residential ACs after we attain critical mass, Mr Goyal said.
Commercial air-conditioners make up almost 70% of Daikin Indias turnover of Rs 400 crore in 2007-08. The company is aiming for sales of Rs 1,000 crore in 2009-10. Daikin is also planning to step up sales in the residential market through tie-ups with retail chains.
So far we have not been present through modern retail formats but by next year we will be doing that.
