Canon to ramp up retail

Canon has signed up with 35 retail chains including national and city based retail chains .

NEW DELHI: Canon is ramping up its retail operations in the country significantly as it eyes a turnover of Rs 500 crore for next year.
Canon has signed up with 35 retail chains including national and city based retail chains and is planning to extend this to 45 chains by the end of 2006. The plan for next year is to more than double it by tying with 100 retail chains.
Speaking at the launch of 51 new products in the capital today, Alok Bharadwaj, vice president at Canon India, said, "This year we should be in the region of Rs 400 crore in terms of revenues and next year we are eyeing 30% growth. In the digital camera segment where we have 20% market share today we are looking to take a leadership position by next year." Canon’s medium term revenue target from India has been set at Rs 1,000 crore by 2009.
India has been identified as a key market for Canon’s VICTORY growth strategy which includes countries like Vietnam, India, China and Thailand.
