At the event, Apple is set to introduce the iPhone 15 lineup which is expected to include four models — iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apart from the smartphones, Apple is expected to refresh the Apple Watch and AirPods lineup.
The event, dubbed ‘Wonderlust’, will see a host of changes made to Apple’s most significant product. Based on the leaks and rumours going around the internet, we have compiled a list of things we expect from Apple at the September 12 event —
Shift to USB Type-C
The most significant change to iPhones this year will be a shift to USB-C ports for charging. For the first time, the iPhone 15 is expected to ditch the proprietary Lightning cable in favour of the widely-used USB-C port. The move to USB-C was egged on by the European Union’s regulation on making the port standard mandatory for all gadgets, and has been accepted by Apple.
Dynamic Island Across All Models
According to analysts, all four iPhone 15 models will adopt the Dynamic Island notch that was introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro models last year. The pill-shaped interactive cutout will adorn the face of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, marking a long-sought change in the design.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to sport a titanium frame, along with thinner bezels.
World’s First 3nm Chip
Driving further differentiation between the base and pro models of the iPhone, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to be powered by the Apple A17 chip built on TSMC’s 3nm process.
Meanwhile, the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will be transitioned to the Apple 16 which powered the Pro models last year.
Both the base and pro models are expected to feature significant camera upgrades. The base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models are expected to feature the same 48MP stacked CMOS sensor from Sony that was introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro models last year. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max may exclusively feature a periscope lens for the first time, offering 6x optical zoom.
