Air-conditioners and appliances maker Voltas expects summer demand to return to levels of year 2024, after a rain-impacted peak season last year, the company’s managing director Mukundan Menon said on Tuesday. “In 2024-25, we saw a dip of around 25% in season. We are expecting that demand to return to 2024 levels,” he said. The company expects domestic sales to increase by 15-20% over last year. Weather forecasters have predicted a prolonged and intense summer season this year. In 2025, unseasonal and consistent rains had severely impacted demand across summer-facing categories, from ACs and refrigerators, to soft drinks and ice-cream.

Asked if the company was looking at capacity expansion on the eve of peak summer, Menon said: “We already have an existing capacity of three million units; we are well taken care of in terms of requirements, as far as room ACs are concerned.”

Voltas, which has a leadership share of close to 18% in the AC market, expects a 5-15% increase in air conditioner prices this year, amid rising copper prices and a weakening rupee compared to the dollar.

Menon said that the company is working closely with the government to work out ways to enhance exports from India.

He added that the company's current import content, which was almost 65%, has come down to less than 30-35%. “Over the next two-three years, import content will further decrease to less than 10%.”

The company announced the launch of AI-enabled air-conditioners for the season, as well as the signing of actors Ranbir and Neetu Kapoor to endorse its brand.
