Samsung India selects Manavjit as Olympic brand ambassador

Consumer durable maker Samsung India has chosen Indian shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu as its brand ambassador for its Beijing Olympic programme.

NEW DELHI: Consumer durable maker Samsung India has chosen Indian shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu as its brand ambassador for its Beijing Olympic programme.

The company has invited the public to participate in the 'Spread the Olympic flame' programme by nominating their torchbearers who would carry the Olympic flame when it passes through Mumbai on April 17 on its way to Beijing.

These torchbearers would join the others selected by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to carry the flame, the company said in a release.

"It is a great opportunity for the Indian public to participate in the Olympic movement by nominating their role models, people who they think deserve the honour of carrying the torch," Manavjit said.

The nomination programme is open to public from Oct 10-25. The torchbearers would finally be selected by a panel comprising representatives from the media, IOA and Samsung.

"In the coming few months, we will be carrying out several Olympics related programmes, which will generate excitement for the Olympics in India and build support for the Indian team as they prepare for the Beijing 2008 Olympics," Samsung South west Asia Regional Headquarters President and CEO H B Lee said.
