Rubberised Coir, mats to cost more
Kerala Rubber and Moulded Mat Manufacturers Association has decided to raise the price of their products by 10 per cent from June due to increase in the price of raw materials.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, the association President Thomas Thomas said the factories numbering about 200 in the state engaged in the production of rubberised coir and polypropylene mats were facing a crisis for the past two years.
The price of raw items including raw rubber, chemicals, tyre powder and oils was hiked by 50 per cent and that of production expense by 25 per cent.
He said if the present trend continued livelihood of about 5000 labourers and 3000 indirectly employed will be affected. Major portion of the items was exported to Europe, USA and UK.
