NEW DELHI: Phoenix Lamps is tripling production capacity of compact fluorescent lamps(CFL). The company has set up a greenfield plant at Haridwar with a capacity of 45 million units of CFLs which would start production later this year and cater to both branded as well as bulk unbranded supplies to other lighting companies. The Noida-based Rs 290 crore public listed lighting company sells automotive and residential lighting under the Halonix brand. In addition it also supplies to auto makers and other lighting brands as an original equipment manufacturer.

According to Phoenix Lamps' managing director, Rajiv Prasad, "We would absorb the expanded capacity and might look at the next phase of capacity addition as early as next year. It all depends on how the market for CFLs grow. We see a huge opportunity, traditional incandescent bulbs are being replaced by energy efficient CFLs."

Phoenix recently struck a national distribution deal with Eveready which has a vast distribution network for its batteries business. Through this deal Phoenix expects to push more of its branded business.
