Netherlands co to invest Rs 250 cr in Nut King

MUMBAI: The Netherands-based Beta Empire, a food business group promoted by Rajmohan Pillai, brother of late biscuit baron Rajan Pillai, is planning to set up factories in Indian metros to install, process and package nuts. The company is set to invest Rs 250 crore in Nut King, the group’s nuts business division.
Beta Empire’s expansion plans envisage a timeframe of one year to put up Nut King factories in each of the four metros with an investment of Rs 50 crore on each unit. One such plant has already been set up at Satara in Maharashtra.
Products under the brand umbrella of Nut King includes roasted and salted peanuts, dry roasted peanuts, oil roasted & salted almonds, coated nuts and flavoured nuts.
Beta Empire has set up a $20-m factory in Sharjah to cater to the UAE market. Mr Pillai said talks were on to find a JV partner in Bahrain to cover markets in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, neighbouring countries and the US. Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, Mr Pillai said his company currently engaged in food, infrastructure and trading.
It is also planning a diversification, including a $200-m desalination plant in Tamil Nadu with a capacity to produce 30,000 metric tonne of water a day.
