India's computer market sees 20% year-on-year growth
The consumer PC category is transitioning from desktop- centric to notebook-centric growth, with notebook PC shipments accounting for 27% of total client PC share.
"We expect a compound annual growth rate of 20 per cent in personal computers (PC) for the next five years," IDC India Manager PC Research Piyush Pushkal said.
The sales would be driven by increased spending on IT by large enterprises, besides greater usage of the technology in education, he said, adding that the government's drive towards automation will further boost PC sales in the country.

Laptop sales have touched 1.8 million units in 2007. Portability and increased usage in education has been A major factor for note book PC sales, he added.
"The notebook PC shipments touching 1.8 million units reinforces the increasing acceptance of laptops as the preferred choice for a large number of first-time PC buyers," Kapil Dev Singh, Country Manager of IDC India, said.
In the total desktop PC market, HP retained the top spot with HCL a close second. Lenovo was placed third.
In terms of commercial desktop PC shipments, HCL led the market followed by HP and Lenovo. In terms of consumer desktop PC shipments, HP topped the market in 2007 followed by HCL and LG Electronics, according to an IDC statement.
In the total Notebook PC market, HP retained the top spot with a market share of 37 per cent in 2007. Lenovo and Acer were at second and third spots, with market shares of 16 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.
