Goods to bear a unique mark of quality from Oct next year

NEW DELHI: From October 2011 onwards, all goods across the country would have a unique mark of quality that will help customers in purchasing a product.

'I'-Mark would be launched in March next year. By October-November, products and goods with I-Mark stamp will be available in the market, National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad) Director Pradyumna Vyas said at the 10th Design Summit here today.

The summit was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and National Institute of Design (NID).

Like the ISI mark of the Indian Bureau of Standards, 'I' hologram would certify that the stamped products are well-designed, innovative, safe, comfortable and that they adhere to green technology.

This idea was mooted by the India Design Council. The mark gets its inspiration from Japan's 'G' mark, the Good Design Award given to the best products, Vyas said.

The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), in partnership with industry associations like CII, has been working on bringing about a mindset change in the industry on the need for keeping the imperatives of good design in mind.
