Exide Industries wins 15 year trademark spat

In a huge relief for leading battery-maker Exide Industries, the company averted serious competition as it won a 15 year old trademark suit against global battery giant Exide Technologies.

The Delhi High Court today restrained US-based Exide Technologies from using the trademark "Exide" in India and noted that Exide Industries had been using the trademark in India for the past 62 years.

Exide Industries had moved the Delhi High Court in 1997 in an attempt to stop the US company from using the "Exide" trademark for its India entry. Delhi-based law firm Agarwal Law Associates advised Exide Industries on the case.
