Durables industry bets big on premium offerings
The sales mantra for the coming festive season for the Rs 23,000-crore durables industry is to push premium products with a vengeance.
Durables marketers have lined up a series of promotional activities around their premium offerings and expect a healthy 25-30% jump in sales in the next two-three months. Take the Rs 9,800-crore TV market, the biggest segment in consumer electronics and durables.
Its LCDs and home-theatre systems that most marketers are banking on to push sales during September-December. Says LG Electronics director (sales and marketing) V Ramachandran: The LCD segment is getting bigger by the day. We expect to witness a growth of over 30% during the festive season. According to Haier Appliances India COO Pranay Dhabhai: We see sales coming across the spectrum. Yet we will focus on premium products and launch a premium range of LCD during the festive period.
Says Hitachi Home Electronics India country head Tarun Jain: We are enhancing the value of the product and would like to communicate the value and offers rather than giving price discounts to our customers.
