NEW DELHI: Curtains may have been drawn on Diwali but consumer durable manufacturers are still bursting crackers as their sales exceeded targets and they look to achieving record sales this festive season.
According to the Consumer Electronics and Television Manufacturers Association (CETMA), sales figures in the festive season are set to better last year's performance.
"Last year, for instance, 1.5 million TV sets were sold. This year the figure would be surpassed," CETMA Secretary General Suresh Khanna said.
He said better performance is expected despite the fact that bulk sales happened only during the week preceding Diwali as against the usual trend of it happening at least 10 days before. He, however, added it would be too early to put an exact figure to the Diwali sales as CETMA's members are yet to submit their sales figures achieved during the season.
Nevertheless, companies like Videocon, LG and Samsung are already talking about exceeding Diwali sales targets.
He said the company managed to sell 6.48 lakh units of colour television as against a target of five lakh units for Diwali.
"The target that we set from overall TV sales by Diwali was about Rs 400 crore but we managed to clock about Rs 520 crore," Mehta said.
