CHENNAI: The Council of Leather Exports will be hosting the 26th edition of the International Footwear Conference here for two days from Friday.
It was the first time that India was hosting the conference, which would have scientific session and presentation and factory visits by foreign participants, CLE Chairman Mukhtarul Amin told the media.
Over 50 delegates from abroad would be attending the two-day conference, which would discuss the issues of the footwear industry, he said.
Due to depreciaition of dollar, the leather industry in India had lost Rs.838 crore in the current fiscal.
Indian leather exports touched a record $1.21 billion last year and efforts were on to increase the exports by hiking the capacity of the factories and introduction of new designs, he said.
