Circadia marks 50 years as India’s premium mattress as market shifts to engineering
India’s premium mattress buyers are moving beyond size, price and firmness to ask about foam density, pressure relief and durability. Circadia, the premium sleep brand from 50-year-old Mumbai based manufacturer Foam Home, argues that the harder ad...
Digital distribution has made mattress discovery easier than ever. It has also made brand differentiation harder. Claims such as ‘orthopaedic’, ‘cooling’, ‘premium foam’ and ‘hotel comfort’ can be repeated quickly across the category.
As online selling becomes easier to replicate, the harder advantage may increasingly lie elsewhere: product engineering, manufacturing capability, materials expertise and the ability to explain those differences clearly. That is the context in which Circadia is being built.

Today, that foundation is being interpreted by 39-year-old second-generation leader Sabina Bhanpurawala, the mind behind Circadia. Having grown up around mattress manufacturing, her objective was not to make Foam Home appear younger, simply by changing its packaging. It was to ask what five decades of product knowledge could become when combined with newer materials, structural design, international partnerships and the way today’s customers discover brands.
A digital brand built on a manufacturing foundation
Foam Home spent decades understanding how foams behave, how body weight changes the feel of a mattress and why two consumers can experience the same construction differently. That learning happened inside the factory as much as at the retail counter.
In-house manufacturing gives the business control over:
- Material selection and density: which foam sits where, and what each layer is expected to do
- Cutting, zoning and dimensions: including sizes outside the standard range
- Combinations of materials: how components behave together rather than individually
- Finishing and quality checks: ensuring consistency from one production run to the next
The next stage of competition may depend less on who can create another comfort label and more on capabilities that are difficult to copy quickly: structural design, specialised processes, supplier relationships, consistency and proprietary know-how.
The Ergoshell support system is Circadia’s clearest example. Developed through Foam Home’s manufacturing journey, it moves away from relying solely on conventional layer-on-layer construction. A moulded structural shell houses individually placed vertical support blocks that can be mapped across the mattress.
The reasoning begins with a simple fact: the body is not a uniform load. The shoulders, torso, pelvis and legs place different pressures on a sleeping surface. Rather than asking one slab to respond identically everywhere, the construction allows different areas of the mattress to perform differently.
This moves personalisation beyond ‘soft, medium or firm’ towards a more engineering-led discussion involving body weight, sleeping posture, pressure distribution and material response.

Foam Home’s longevity is only part of the story. An important reason the company has continued evolving is its longstanding willingness to look beyond its own market for specialist expertise.
Across its journey, Foam Home has worked with international companies in polyurethane systems, latex, textiles, components and manufacturing technology. The purpose was not simply to import finished products or add European names to a brochure. It was to bring specialist material and process knowledge into its own manufacturing.
Its work with SAIP in Italy around polyurethane systems and manufacturing technology is one example. Relationships with European material specialists across latex, textiles and high-performance components have widened what the business could explore and manufacture.
For Bhanpurawala, this outward-looking culture became one of the foundations for Circadia’s premium sleep range: keep the manufacturing intelligence built in India, but remain open to the best materials and ideas available globally.
Technogel: A partnership around capability
Technogel is a specialised polyurethane gel developed through European material science and engineering. It is designed to deform in three dimensions around the body, helping redistribute pressure. Its tower-grid structure creates channels for airflow, while its thermal characteristics make it relevant to temperature management.
Circadia integrates the material with its own Ergoshell construction rather than treating Technogel as a standalone mattress technology. That distinction captures the wider philosophy.
Technogel contributes a highly specialised material. Foam Home contributes decades of mattress-making experience and the manufacturing ability to decide how that material should work within a larger system. The result is not simply an imported ingredient. It is global material knowledge locally integrated into a finished product.
Premiumisation through personalisation
As India’s premium consumer market develops, personalisation is becoming familiar across categories. In mattresses, however, it can easily become a marketing word unless backed by manufacturing flexibility. Different requirements can call for different decisions:
- Body weight: changes how the same construction is experienced
- Sleeping position: changes where pressure concentrates on the surface
- Firmness preference: a starting point rather than the whole specification
- Comfort materials: selected for a defined purpose inside the construction
- Non-standard sizes: possible when cutting and dimensions are controlled in-house
- Internal support requirements: how the support structure is mapped across the mattress
Why manufacturing matters more in the digital era
Digital channels have changed who can enter a category. They have also made expertise more visible.
A manufacturing-led brand can use digital channels not merely to advertise mattresses, but also to explain foam density, pressure distribution, mattress architecture, airflow, durability, materials and quality control in plain language. In a category crowded with similar claims, education itself can become differentiated.
Foam Home historically built its reputation through customers, referrals and professional recommendations. Circadia allows that product knowledge to travel further, reaching consumers who may discover the company through search, social media or digital content before they ever visit a store.
That is also where Bhanpurawala’s second-generation perspective becomes important. Circadia is not an attempt to leave Foam Home’s past behind. It is an attempt to make 50 years of accumulated manufacturing knowledge more visible and relevant to a consumer who researches extensively before buying.
What premium sleep buyers should be judging
India’s premium mattress market does not need another definition of luxury. It needs better ways to judge what sits beneath the fabric.
Circadia’s proposition is that sophisticated sleep should be supported by something harder to imitate than advertising: manufacturing depth, structural thinking, carefully chosen materials, global partnerships and the ability to bring all of them together coherently.
The brand may be entering the digital conversation now. The capability behind it has been building for 50 years.
