Titagarh Wagons to have JV with FreightCar
The joint venture would set up a new wagon manufacturing unit near Titagarh in West Bengal at an investment of $35 million.
"We are looking for 100 acre near Titagarh for setting up the new unit for production of wagons made of aluminium to boost payload capacity," Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Titagarh Wagons Ltd J P Chowdhary told reporters today after meeting West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
Top officials of FreightCar America accompanied Chowdhary during his meeting with the chief minister.
While Titagarh Wagons Ltd produces nearly 4,000 wagons a year, FreightCar's production capacity was 18,000 wagons annually, Chowdhary said.
Chowdhary said that he had discussed the use of the new wagons with the Railways.
