SBI to have lead bank responsibility of Kalimpong district: RBI

The West Bengal vide Gazette Notification dated February 7, 2017 had notified the creation of 'Kalimpong' by redefining the limits of Darjeeling district.

MUMBAI: State Bank of India has been assigned the "lead bank responsibility" of the newly carved- out ' Kalimpong' district in West Bengal.

The West Bengal vide Gazette Notification dated February 7, 2017 had notified the creation of 'Kalimpong' by redefining the limits of Darjeeling district.

"It has been decided to assign the lead bank responsibility of this new district to SBI," the Reserve Bank of India said in a notification.

Central Bank of India will have the lead bank responsibility of Darjeeling district, it said.

The lead bank scheme aims at coordinating the activities of banks and other developmental agencies through various fora to enhance flow of bank finance to priority sector and promote banks' role in overall development of rural sector.

For coordinating the activities in the district, a particular bank is assigned the lead bank responsibility of the district.

The lead bank is expected to assume leadership role for coordinating the efforts of the credit institutions and the government.
