RBI appeals not to deface currency notes

Reserve Bank of India has appealed to the people to abstain from defacing currency notes as it is a "disrespect to the nation".

KANPUR: Reserve Bank of India has appealed to the people to abstain from defacing currency notes as it is a "disrespect to the nation".

"Public should not indulge in acts like making garland of notes and decoration in various functions, as this mounts to defacing the currency," RBI regional director J B Bhoria said today.

He said: "currency notes are sign of sovereignty and by defacing them we show disrespect to it."
