Cyberattack on Insurance Information Bureau of India; data at risk

The Insurance Information Bureau of India (IIB) has faced a cyberattack and some of the data it holds may have been compromised, said two people aware of the matter. IIB collects transaction data from insurers for different lines of business.

"There has been a breach, it is being addressed at the highest level," said one of the people aware of the developments. "Some data has been compromised, the situation is ongoing," said the second person who did not wish to be quoted.

Phone calls and text messages sent to IIB chief executive Arindam Dutta did not elicit a response. An email sent to IIB also remained unanswered till the time of filing this story.


Cyberattacks on Indian institutions have increased in the last few years. A committee set up by the insurance regulator has said IIB should be turned into a private company.
