Mumbai: Swedish fund EQT has appointed Hari Gopalakrishnan and Nicholas Macksey as co-heads of its Private Capital Asia business, marking a key leadership transition, said a company statement.

The appointments follow the elevation of long-time Asia veteran Jean Eric Salata as chair of EQT Group earlier this month. Salata will continue to serve as chair of EQT Asia and chair of the firm’s Private Capital Asia investment committees, remaining closely involved in investment decisions and strategic direction, it said.

Both Gopalakrishnan and Macksey are long-serving executives who joined EQT nearly two decades ago and played central roles in building the firm’s Asia franchise into one of the region’s leading private markets platforms.

Macksey currently serves as partner and head of EQT’s Mid-Market Opportunities (MMO) strategy in Asia.

Gopalakrishnan, who joined EQT in 2007 as one of the founding members of the India team, currently heads Private Capital India and serves as global co-head of services.

“Having worked alongside them for nearly two decades, I have seen firsthand their development into outstanding investors, leaders and trusted partners,” Salata said in a statement.

Gopalakrishnan said Asia continues to offer compelling long-term investment opportunities, particularly in technology, services and sectors benefiting from rising domestic demand and structural growth trends.

Established in 1997, EQT’s Private Capital Asia platform has deployed around $30 billion across more than 160 transactions. The firm recently closed BPEA IX at $15.6 billion, making it the largest Asia-Pacific focused private equity fund raised to date.
