Forum fines Sahara finance arm for holding insurance money

The District Consumer and Redressal Forum has pronounced the Sundergarh branch of the finance arm of Sahara India guilty of not paying a widow the insurance sum due to her after her husband's accidental death, sources said on Friday.

ROURKELA: The District Consumer and Redressal Forum has pronounced the Sundergarh branch of the finance arm of Sahara India guilty of not paying a widow the insurance sum due to her after her husband's accidental death, sources said on Friday.

The Forum ordered full payment of the maturity value of Rs one lakh to Kabita Agarwal, widow of policy holder Rajesh Agarwal of Rajgangpur, who died in a road accident in November, 2005.

Kabita had filed a case with the Forum when she did not receive the sum due her as per Sahara India's Silver India Year Scheme policy.

In addition to the sum, the Forum yesterday directed the private insurance company to pay Kabita a sum of Rs 10,000 as compensation for mental agony and Rs 2,000 as court litigation expenses.
