The promoter had a 66.21% stake in CreditAccess Grameen (CAG) at the end of June.
On Thursday, it sold 36.6 lakh equity shares representing 2.28% of the outstanding paid up share capital of the non-banking financial company-microfinance institution (NBFC-MFI) through block deals in the open market.
"This sale was undertaken as a specific measure to provide liquidity to long-term investors of CAI, with an objective of enhancing the company’s free float and broadening institutional ownership in the company," CAG said in a regulatory filing to stock exchanges.
"CAI has reaffirmed its commitment to the company’s long term vision,” it added.

Prior to the block deal, US-based private equity firm Olympus Capital Asia held about 16% in the parent company of CAG, while Asian Development Bank had a 9% stake. Asia Impact, promoted by CreditAccess India founder Paolo Brichetti, held around 11%. The balance was distributed among 240-odd large family offices and high-net-worth individuals, people aware said.
"The microfinance industry is in up-cycle momentum and CreditAccess India has been working on planning a fair market valued exit to some of its patient investors," CreditAccess India deputy chairman Udaya Kumar Hebbar had told ET in February.
The process of seeking new investors started around the beginning of the year while it took a backseat after following the West Asia conflicts, people aware said.
Of the existing investors, about 40% are looking for an exit option. Some of them remained invested since 2007, Hebbar had said.
