'Banks can create job opportunities using microfinance'

DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand finance minister Indira Hridayesh on Monday said banks can create employment opportunities in the state and should consider using microfinance for this.

"Banks in Uttarakhand can stop migration from hills and create job opportunities for youths," she said while addressing a meeting of the State-level Bankers Committee (SLBC) here.

While expressing concern over the low credit deposit ratio ( CDR) in the state, particularly in Dehradun and Haridwar, she asked banks to provide guarantee-free loans to people and developing clusters for microfinancing.

On the occasion, chief secretary Alok Jain asked banks to increase distribution of kisan credit cards to farmers.
