RBI complains of receipt of fake notes; FIR lodged

An FIR has been lodged here following a complaint from the RBI of receipt of fake notes from the city-based branches of five banks.

ALLAHABAD: An FIR has been lodged here following a complaint from the Reserve Bank of India of receipt of fake notes from the city-based branches of five banks.

"We received a written complaint sent to us by post by the RBI yesterday wherein it had been alleged that more than Rs 28,000 in fake currency have been received from five banks in the recent past. The letter also made a request for an FIR being lodged in this connection, following which we have registered a case," Inspector, Civil Lines Police Station, R K Singh said.

He said the banks from where the receipt of fake notes has been alleged by the RBI are - Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, Allahabad Bank, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

The inspector, however, said that further investigations would be possible only after further details were obtained and for the purpose a sub-inspector has been directed to visit the RBI's regional office.
