HDFC ATMs, net banking crashes, consumers helpless

NEW DELHI: HDFC Bank customers across India have had a very unpleasant day on Tuesday. They failed to withdraw money from the bank ATMs and the net banking was down too. At some places, the ATMs disbursed limited money, leading one to believe that either there was a shortage of cash in their account or money had run short in the ATM itself.

SN Sharma, a Delhi-based media person, had a similar experience when the machine gave him only Rs 5,000. Later, however, it was discovered that the problem had resulted from a technical snag in the bank's system itself.

Confirming the same, a bank spokesperson said there was a technical problem and that all efforts were being made to rectify the same.

"HDFC Bank today experienced a technical problem in one of its system applications catering to its retail customers, affecting certain services. The bank's other systems like corporate banking, depository, treasury, credit cards etc functioned normally. The bank is working to resolve the problem and expects resumption of full services shortly," he said, adding, "the bank deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers."
