Triumph rolls out cheaper 350cc versions of 400 range, launches Tracker 400 in India: Revised prices and what's new

Triumph has replaced its 400cc models in India with new 350cc versions, including the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, to navigate higher GST taxes. Despite the engine downsizing, the '400' branding remains. The updated lineup features a 349cc engin...

Triumph has discontinued its 400 CC models in India. It has now introduced new 350cc versions of its popular 400 lineup in India, including the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Thruxton 400 and Speed T4. Despite the engine downsizing, the company has retained the ‘400’ branding across models.

The move comes in response to revised GST norms, where motorcycles above 350cc attract significantly higher taxes. By switching to a 349cc engine, Triumph aims to keep prices competitive without making major changes to design, features or overall positioning.

Engine and performance
All models now use a 349cc single-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Output figures have seen a slight dip compared to the earlier 400cc versions.

The Speed T4 produces 29PS and 31Nm, while the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X and Scrambler 400 XC deliver 37PS and 32Nm. The Thruxton 400 remains the most powerful of the lot with 40PS and 32Nm.

Design and features
Triumph has retained the styling across the range. Each bike continues with its distinct identity—roadster (Speed 400), rugged scrambler (Scrambler 400 X), cafe racer (Thruxton 400) and classic roadster (Speed T4).

Common elements include a round LED headlamp, sculpted fuel tank and premium finish levels.

Feature-wise, the lineup remains unchanged, offering an analogue-digital instrument cluster, all-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control.

Hardware setup
Most models get USD front forks and a monoshock rear suspension, while the Speed T4 uses telescopic forks. Braking duties are handled by 300mm or 320mm front discs (depending on model) and a 230mm rear disc. Kerb weights range between 179kg and 185kg.

Prices in India (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The revised pricing reflects slight reductions across most models:

Speed T4: Rs 1.95 lakh (unchanged)

Speed 400: Rs 2.31 lakh (cheaper by Rs 7,110)
Scrambler 400 X: Rs 2.59 lakh (Rs 10,736 cheaper)
Scrambler 400 XC: Rs 2.89 lakh (Rs 7,383 cheaper)
Thruxton 400: Rs 2.65 lakh (Rs 10,84 cheaper)

Tracker 400 launched
Alongside the updated range, Triumph has also launched the new Tracker 400 at Rs 2.46 lakh (ex-showroom).

Inspired by flat-track racing, the motorcycle features a retro design with sporty elements such as a flat handlebar, flat seat, round LED headlamp and racing graphics.

It is powered by the same 350cc engine, producing 40PS and 32Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The bike comes equipped with USD forks, a monoshock, dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control and a torque-assist clutch.
