NEW DELHI: Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to bring in Peugeot Motorcycles e-Ludix scooter to India. Designed in Pune and manufactured in Pithampur, the e-Ludix, interestingly, is being sold in France currently. The same brand is now being engineered to meet the Indian market cost.

Pawan Goenka, MD of M&M, told ET, “Work is on to make e-Ludix it right price for the Indian market. Along with e-Ludix we are also exploring other alternatives, but the focus is to first get the costing right.”

The decision to brand it Mahindra or Peugeot is yet to be taken.


Mahindra will join the likes of Bajaj and TVS Motor to bring in an electric two wheeler, but in what range does e-Ludix come for the Indian market remains to be seen.

The scooter, which debuted at the Paris Motor Show of 2018, is based on its 50-cc petrol sibling. Powered by a 3KW Bosch lithium ion battery, the scooter has a top speed of 45 kmph and weighs just 85 kilogram. The vehicle has a range of 50 kms per charge and comes with braking energy recovery system.

The Peugeot e-Ludix has also earned the distinction of being the first electric two-wheeler to join the fleet of the prestigious Palais de l’Elysée – the French President’s fleet.

Owned 100% by Mahindra & Mahindra, Peugeot Motorcycles products have been explored for the Indian market a several times since 2016, but given the premium positioning of the brand and price sensitivity in the current range of sold in India, the company put its plans on a back burner for India roll out.
