Hero MotoCorp moves SC seeking extension for sale of BSIV vehicles amid coronavirus crisis

NEW DELHI: The country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has appealed before the Supreme Court to extend the deadline set for sale and registration of BSIV vehicles given the adverse impact on retail sales from the outbreak of coronavirus.

In a filing to the bourses, the company said, “The company has filed an interlocutor application today before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India seeking relaxation of the deadline set for sale it registration of BSIV vehicles i.e. 31.03.2020.”

The company has two weeks inventory of BSIV-compliant motorcycles and scooters which cannot be be sold once the country moves to enhanced BSVI emission norms from April 1, 2020.


“In view of the completely unforeseen developments that have arisen out of the prevailing force majeure situation on account of COVID-19, we have prayed for an extension of time for a period of three months, as this has hampered all aspects of our industry. The Ministry of Finance has also declared that the COVID-19 should be considered as a case of natural calamity and force majeure be invoked”, the statement added.
