Mahindra has just delivered the very first BS6 version of its SUV the Alturas G4 to the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

On behalf of the President, the Joint Secretary of the President's Office received the vehicle, decked out in pure black and added to the Rashtrapati Bhavan fleet.

As of now, the President uses a Mercedes Benz S Class (S600) Pullman Guard, and the Mahindra is unlikely to replace the Mercedes.

The Alturas is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine, paired to a Mercedes-Benz sourced seven-speed, that produces 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque.

Mahindra’s seven-seater SUV is - in essence - a rebadged SsangYong Rexton, was first launched in India in 2018. Mahindra is Ssangyong’s parent company and still offer the Rexton in its lineup.
