Maruti Suzuki passenger vehicle sales drop 20% in April

In the month under review, sales of mini cars Alto and Old WagonR crashed 39.8% to 22766 units.

NEW DELHI: The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki Wednesday reported a 19% decline in domestic sales at 133,704 units.

While sales of passenger vehicles in the local market dropped 19.6% to 131,385 units, that of light commercial vehicle Super Carry went up 50.2% to 2319 units.

Sales of passenger cars for the company fell across categories. In the month under review, sales of mini cars Alto and Old WagonR crashed 39.8% to 22766 units. Wholesale dispatched of compact cars - New WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Ignis, Celerio, DZire, Tour S - dropped 13.9% to 72,146 units. Demand for Ciaz too slid 45.5% to 2789 units.


In the utility vehicle segment (Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross) wholesale volumes rose 5.9% to 22035 units last month. Sales of vans Omni and Eeco fell 26.7% to 11649 units.
