New Delhi: Honda Motor has named Takashi Nakajima the new president and chief executive of its India unit manufacturing cars and utility vehicles.

Nakajima will take charge at Honda Cars India Ltd from April 1, replacing Takuya Tsumura, who is moving to Honda’s head office in Japan after completing his India tenure, the company said in a news release Monday.

Nakajima, who joined Honda in 1994, has previously worked in markets like Japan, China, Spain, the Czech Republic and Russia in the areas of business planning, product planning, marketing and sales promotion, the company release said.

He has been serving as president of Honda Motor Russia since 2021. During his latest assignment, he was also in-charge of product planning, marketing and corporate communication for Honda’s automobile business in the Japanese market, the news release said.

The appointments are part of management changes announced annually by Honda Motor, it said.

"During his successful three-year tenure in India, Tsumura was instrumental in fortifying the premium brand positioning of Honda in India, strengthening customer centric solutions, and driving the company's profitable growth," the company said.
