Notably, the robust increase in retails, as measured by vehicle registrations, was helped by a low base, as consumer demand was weak in the months running up to the goods and services tax (GST) cut in September 2025.

Dealers are confident of the growth momentum lasting on expectations the southwest monsoon would recoup its deficit in the coming months, and kharif sowing would gather pace, driving rural sales. Supplies of raw materials and natural gas to automakers are also expected to normalise following the US-Iran ceasefire while easing crude oil prices is likely to lift consumer sentiment.
Sales of two-wheelers climbed 21% in June, while three-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles clocked increases of 16%, 29% and 17%, respectively, according to Fada. Tractors too recorded their second-best June ever, with sales rising by 25% last month.

“That such records have come in a seasonally transitional month underscores the structural depth of the India growth story and the widening aspirations of Bharat,” said CS Vigneshwar, president, Fada.
Sequentially, two-wheeler sales fell about 0.9% due to the late onset and uneven progress of the southwest monsoon, which kept rain-fed markets in a wait-and-watch mode. Dealers, however, reported strong entry-level demand, improved supplies after the ceasefire, and a decisive shift in consumer preference for electric powertrains.
The share of electrics in total two-wheeler sales crossed double digits for the first time, touching 10.6%, up from 7.34% a year ago.
In the commercial vehicle segment, though, with goods movement broadening beyond the metros, rural markets showed strong traction, growing by 21.6% last month. Urban centres in comparison posted 12.8% sales growth. Dealers attributed this to steady freight activity, ecommerce-linked movement, and normalising supplies.
