Automobile Skill Development Council to be set up soon
Under ASDC, the government has set up a target to train 25 mn people both directly and indirectly engaged in automobile industry in the next five years
The Automobile Skill Development Council, which would be set up the umbrella of the National Skill Development Council ( NSDC), is expected to be set up soon, a government official said today.
"Automobile Skill Development Council (ASDC) has now become a reality with National Skill Development Council agree to fund the project in the first phase of ASDC," Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industry, B S Meena, said at ACMA function here today.
Recently, the NSDC has provided Rs 75 lakh for setting up the structure, core staff and prepare syllabus, a ministry official said.
The funds for training labour workforce in the sector would be jointly funded by the government and the industry for the next two years.
"Of the estimated Rs 6 crore required for the programme in two years, the government will provide almost one third and two third would be provided by the industry," the official said.
He added that from the third year the programme would become self-sustaining.
Under ASDC, the government has set up a target to train 25 million people both directly and indirectly engaged in automobile industry in the next five years, he said.
In 2008, the government has constituted the NSDC, an apex body that will guide activities for skill development in the country.
It is chaired by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and consists of ministers of human resource development, finance, heavy industry and public enterprises, housing and urban poverty alleviation and labour and employment.
